English Department Of Foreign Languages Institute, Grade 2016: Carry Forward The Teachers’ Spirit, Build The Teachers’ Soul.

In order to welcome the Teachers’ Day on September 10th, carry forward the spirit of devotion, dedication and enthusiasm of teachers, and provide a platform for students to tell their stories, the League General Branch of English Department, Foreign Languages Institute, Grade 2016 held a voluntary story collection activity called "Telling Teacher's Stories; Transmitting Teacher's Spirit".

 

During the preparatory period of this activity, students of this grade sent their manuscripts enthusiastically, posted photos of summer voluntary activities and shared the moving stories behind the photos, which presented the elegant demeanor of normal students of English Department, Grade 2016.

 

As a member of Hefeng Team of Qinghe Practice Team, Ge  Changqing went to Tsinghua Hope Primary School in Tongquan Village for a short-term teaching activity during the summer investigation. In the face of nervous and excited children, she and her team carried out an interesting class ------ the origin and development of Chinese hieroglyphs. According to the teachers' knowledge, the children gave full play to their fantastic ideas, speculated on the hieroglyphics of modern Chinese characters, and shared them with their teachers and classmates. Ge Changqing said: "These children, like the children in the city, were lively, cheerful, innocent and enthusiastic, but they were very different as well. There were no good economic conditions; there wasn’t lots of exposure to new things. But because of these, they had sincere and fervent feelings towards elder brothers and sisters like us. who stayed for just a short time, and they were particularly eager and cherished every moment of the classes.

 

Zhang Xijiao is a member of the Xiantao team. In July, she went to Zhoubang Village in which Honest School is located to do some research. At an interesting sports meeting that she and her team prepared for the children, a little girl accidentally fell down and scratched herself. Zhang Xijiao quickly smeared her with iodophor. In return for the help of the "little teacher", the little girl actively participated in the course activities in the following days, automatically acting as a "little interpreter" between the team members and the villagers. "Watching the little girl shuttling through every house with us ,I felt I had learned how to care for the students. Sincerity was the most effective way to build trust with students. From this I could not help but wonder if my future students and I could also establish this kind of relationship that ‘I give you a peach this day, you give me a diamond the other day in return’. ( A good turn rendered for a better turn received)” said Zhang Xijiao.

 

In addition to summer teaching activities, Zhou Ying also talked about her experience as a head teacher in the English training camp last year. In the manuscript, she mentioned a story of a student crying over his failure to recite a speech fluently in front of the dean of students. Finally, she succeeded in enlightening this student with her patience and enthusiasm, and made him regain confidence. From this incident, Zhou Ying felt the pride and satisfaction of being a teacher. She said, "When the English training camp was over and the children gathered around to ask for the way to contact me, I suddenly felt very fulfilled. After all, it was also a sign that they recognized me."

 

The exhibition of the stories and photographs won unanimous praise from the students. The students carried forward the spirit of being a good teacher in practice, casted a noble spirit of teachers, fully demonstrated the elegant demeanor of contemporary normal students, and laid a solid foundation for their future teaching career.
