On the afternoon of April 11th, the 3rd counselor salon was held in Room 401, Students’ Activity Center. Chen Zhi from Student Affairs Office, Chen Zhenzhen from Mental Health Education Center, Liu Qian, counselor of College of Physical Science and Technology and Zhou Bei, social counselor of the 1st Dormitory were invited during this activity, sharing ideas on how to deal with students' psychological crisis. And the salon was presided over by Rao Yanping, a teacher from Office of Ideological Education.
Combining with her own work practice and taking the topic of "starting from the people and things around us", she firstly introduced the background, and then elaborated the detailed intervention process of a specific case. And she also talked about her experience and enlightenment from five aspects: the principles should be adhered to when dealing with suspected crisis, the emphasis on establishing good interpersonal relationship, the importance of tapping the elements of mental health education and so on. On the other hand, Zhou Bei shared her own feelings about dormitory impression and lasting concern, and advocated the establishment of closer contact with college counselors for convenience of serving students. According to what Liu Qian and Zhou Bei had said, Mr. Chen Zhenzhen told us about the necessary requirement, the duties and the essential psychological knowledge and ability for a counselor to become a “goalkeeper”. In the end, basing on his own practical work, Mr. Chen Zhi communicated with teachers about resolving the process and the notice when dealing with the student crisis.
To cope with students' psychological crisis events, we should always implement the working concept of "student-centered", which needs both accumulation of experience in daily work and professional knowledge such as psychology. And it is not just the responsibility of counselors, but other departments’ collaborative participation that should also be required, so as to better safeguard students' personal mental health and the stability of the whole campus.
