THE VOICE OF CCNU-In the night of October 9th, four of the members in Boya voluntary organization held the 2nd “Offer a hand to the canteen workers” voluntary activity, whose goal was to help the canteen workers look after their children and help with their study.
At the beginning, the volunteers first asked the children about the progress of their homework and how did they control their lessons. The children said: “Though we have 8 days to complete our homework, we are still not familiar enough with the understanding and application of some tips, so we hope you can help us better control the related tips.”
Xiaotian, a boy had trouble in writing, memorizing and using the Chinese characters, was helped by Hu Na. Xiaotian was so unfamiliar with the strokes of Chinese characters that he couldn‘t even make out the meaning and layout of Chinese characters. Hu Na taught the strokes and meanings of some important and difficult characters to Xiaotian, and set an example for him in person with great patience. Under the devoted guidance of the volunteers, Xiaotian gradually grasped the strokes of “shangxia” and “zuoyou”. What’s more, she also got other strange and complex writing tips and raised her passion for memorizing the words greatly, we believe she will have a better efficiency in the coming days.
Fu Xinyue was matched with Xiaojie, she paid close attention to Xiaojie‘s trouble in handling with the math problems. Though Xiaojie’s accuracy is quite high, his speed worried him a lot. After communicating with Xiaojie, Fu Xinyue found it was his old methods that made him slow. He always used the old ones instead of the new ones. To solve this problem, Xinyue started from the textbook, and told Xiaojie the advantages of using new methods. At first, Xiaojie didn’t want to give up his own method, but after he learnt how easy and convenient the new methods were, his accuracy and speed both raised a lot. Xiaojie excitedly said:” The problems that originally needed 5 minutes to complete can be solved in a flash now! These methods are so useful!”
With the problems being solved one after another, the activity was near to the end. Wang Xiuting, one of the volunteers said: “the children’s studies are being increasingly complex, as a result, they are bound to meet much more problems. What I can do is to try my best to help with their homework, and raise up their scores. Finally, “Help at the Canteen“ voluntary service came to a happy termination.
