On the evening of December 11, the final of 2020 "Golden Throat" was held swiftly at the Hua Qing theater. Fu Li and Jon Miller from English Department, Jin Yingdan from Japanese Department, Wu Danting from French Department, and Wang Jiannan from Spanish Department formed the teacher judges, while Guo Shiwei, a post-graduate from Asian-African Department, acted as the student judge. Yang Lingzhen, the deputy secretary of the sub Party committee of School of Foreign Languages, Qiu Ling, secretary of the Youth League Committee of School of Foreign Languages, Pan Yingzi, counselor from the Minority Language Department of grade 2017 and 2018, and Niu Jing, counselor of the English Department of grade 2020, were also invited as the guests of the final. The host of the competition is Liang Yuxiao from French Department of grade 2020 and Gao Zizhen from Russian Department of grade 2020.
After the screening and fierce competition of the preliminary competition, a total of 15 teams entered the final. The shortlisted players brought an audio-visual feast for the audience and judges. The final was divided into two parts: Theme Dubbing and Creative Dubbing. The Theme Dubbing took "life and nature" as the theme, and the contestants could choose the dubbing segments freely. Creative Dubbing highlighted creativity without any limit to languages and themes. Both of the final two rounds were calculated into the total score with a ratio of 4:6, and the final ranking was determined according to the total score.
In the first round of Theme Dubbing, the players of each team gave full play to their own strengths and performed their roles incisively and vividly. "Guangbutun celebrities" team from English Department of grade 2019 brought the dubbing of Coco, owing to their proper grasp of the characters' emotions, vivid language imitation, and the interweaving of different voices, they ignited the atmosphere of the whole game and won the first place in the Theme Dubbing link with 91.1 points.
In the Creative Dubbing session, the dubbing of French teaching in American classroom brought by “the Baguettes in the pot” team of grade 2018 from French department showed the players' solid professional foundations in an all-round way. The selected clips were also interesting. The tacit cooperation between the contestants and the seamless role transformation pushed the atmosphere to a climax, wining the applause of the judges and the audience. Finally, they won the first place in creative dubbing with 96.8 points.
In the review session, Jon Miller highly praised the excellent performances of all the contestants. Wu Danting said: " As foreign language teachers, it’s our duty to combine the interest of our students with the knowledge learnt in the classroom.” Wang Jiannan publicized Spanish in a humorous tone and hoped that more students could join in the pace of learning Spanish. In the end, the team composed of Zhang Zhuoyuan, Zhang Yuhan, Liu Botong and Li Yunhan from French Department of grade 2018 won the first place in the dubbing competition with an average score of 92.5 in two rounds. In an interview after the competition, Liu Botong and Li Yunhan said: "We took part in the dubbing competition for the purpose of bringing joy to everyone. We didn't expect to win the first prize. This award is actually an unintended gain for us.”
Till then, the "Golden Throat" Foreign Dubbing Competition came to a conclusion. This competition not only improved students' language application abilities and level of teamwork, but also stimulated students' interest and enthusiasm as language learners, which was not only an interpretation of the positive atmosphere of the School of Foreign Language, but also a show of the language characteristics of the school.
