The Voice of CCNU On the morning of November 24, the 2022 Joint Conference on Mental Health Education of College of Chemistry was successfully held at Conference room H502 in Yifu Chemistry Building. The participants included Yang Jun, Deputy Director of Office of Student Affairs, Wu Jiancheng, deputy section chief of Office of Student Affairs, Yu Sai, teacher of the Mental Health Education Center, Qiu Baoguo, Secretary of the Party Committee of College of Chemistry, Chen Dejun and Xu Fen, deputy secretaries of the Party Committee of College of Chemistry, representatives of undergraduate head teachers and postgraduate tutors, part-time and full-time counselors of undergraduates and postgraduates. Xu Fen reported the work of mental health education of the college. First of all, she introduced the current situation of students’ mental health. Then she reported to all participants the overall situation of the work of relying on the “Red Pomegranate Heart Station” to carry out the mental health education, from aspects in enhancing the top design and the working mechanism, improving team building and the guarantee condition, implementing the publicity education and precisely building platforms, attaching importance to crisis intervention and protecting students’ health, incarnating the characteristics of “pomegranate” and creating an education brand. In the following works, the “Red Pomegranate Heart Station” would continue to explore the model of “all staff” mental health education, construct the protective net of students’ mental health, implement psychological education measures, build the brand with characteristics of “Red pomegranate” and keep doing well in all the psychological work of the college.

Subsequently, undergraduate and postgraduate counselors communicated with participants about the situation of their students’ mental health, and introduced the basic situation of their students, as well as their difficulties and experiences during working. Simultaneously, representatives of undergraduate head teachers and postgraduate tutors gave feedback on the special situations in work and put forward some questions.

Yu Sai, teacher of the Mental Health Education Center, answered teachers’ questions one by one. She emphasized that, in daily communication with students, we should pay attention to enhancing guidance, problem consciousness and identification ability. Teachers ought to establish a good relationship with students, gradually enhance students’ sense of trust towards teachers and promote mutual understanding and communication.

Wu Jiancheng, deputy section chief of Office of Student Affairs, affirmed the college’s work of mental health education at first, and then made relevant suggestions and guidance. She said that, for students with severe academic problems, counselors, class advisors and tutors should actively and promptly participate in strengthening accurate academic assistance. In key periods like employment, graduation and the end of term, more attention should be paid to students’ emotional changes and deal with various crises timely.

Yang Jun, Deputy Director of Office of Student Affairs, highly affirmed relevant work of the college and hoped that College of Chemistry could continue to make efforts in following works of mental health education and attach great importance to related problems caused by changes in surroundings and show solicitude and warmness when dealing with problems. He stressed that, in dealing with the relationship between instruction and study, tutors should communicate with students timely and suit measures according to the people. He also said that he would strive for greater support to guarantee the college to break the bottleneck in practical work.

In the end, Qiu Baoguo, Secretary of the Party Committee of College of Chemistry, made concluding remarks. He said that college would finish the work further and more carefully, know students’ general situation well with dynamic, improve work efficiency through classification and pertinence. For instance, make measures to solve students’ need in special period point like graduation season and the end of the term, pay attention to some students in difficulty and take methods to their situation, make full use of the positive role of student Party members and class and league cadres, integrate resources, help students solve mental health problems roundly and consistently improve the overall mental outlook of students.
