A Symposium on Ideological and Political Education for Tuition-free Normal University Students Was Held

March 15, 2024  

On the morning of February 29th, the Ideological and Political Education Department of Office of Student Affairs held a symposium on ideological and political education for tuition-free normal university students in Room 203 of the New College Student Activity Center. Li Diao, Deputy Minister of Office of Student Affairs and Director of the Ideological and Political Education Department, attended the meeting. And there were also representatives from more than 10 colleges, including deputy secretaries of the branch party committees, counselors, and tuition-free normal university students. The meeting was chaired by Li Xianling, Deputy Director of the Ideological and Political Education Department of Office of Student Affairs.


In order to fully understand and comprehensively grasp the ideological status and learning and life situation of tuition-free normal university students, the symposium focused on two issues, namely “How to strengthen the education of professional mission and responsibility among tuition-free normal university students” and “How to enhance their learning motivation”. The attending leaders, teachers, and students actively spoke up and discussed the problems that had arisen in the current study of tuition-free normal university students and talent cultivation of school, and provided valuable opinions and suggestions.


Representatives Chen Xingyu, a public funded teacher trainee of School of Education, and Luo Kexin, a public funded teacher trainee of College of Physical Science and Technology, base on their personal learning and growth experiences, said that they should interpret the background and development context of public funded teacher training policies, understand the growth process of role models, form correct professional cognition and enhance personal sense of identity and responsibility through freshman seminars, front line teacher sharing meetings, and other means at the beginning of enrollment.


Counselors such as Li Qin from School of Physical Education and Sports, and Yu Xuan from School of Life Sciences had found, based on their long-term experiences rooted in the front line, that the learning motivation of public funded normal school students was polarized, which was closely related to factors such as their career ideals and employment pressure. They emphasized that efforts should be made from two dimensions to address the issue of responsibility and mission among public funded normal school students, namely correcting the motivation of filling in the aspiration forms and strengthening daily education and training. Through vocational enlightenment in freshman enrollment education, career guidance in academic education, professional experience in practical education, and pressure input during the training process, public funded normal school students can be guided to continuously enhance their sense of responsibility and mission in the education industry, and actively engage in the great practice of building a strong education country.


From the perspective of student education management, the representative of the deputy secretary of the college party committee had put forward valuable suggestions for the cultivation of public funded normal university students at both the school and college levels. At the school level, he recommended to give full play to the leading role of deploy normal universities, actively promote the implementation of the 4+2 model as soon as possible, take the lead in implementing the exit mechanism for public funded normal university students, and organically integrate the spirit of educators into all aspects of talent cultivation for public funded normal university students. At the college level, he recommended to vigorously promote comprehensive education and classified training. Firstly, through policy lectures, role model education, career counseling, educational practice and other means, to promote the formation of endogenous motivation among students. Secondly, by relying on disciplinary advantages, leveraging alumni resources, implementing a study and internship system, creating a teacher education brand, strengthening learning and communication, and emphasizing publicity and reporting, to create a good educational ecosystem for public funded normal university students. Thirdly, by implementing regional differentiated education management and developmental pre-service and post service integrated training, to improve the accuracy and satisfaction of teacher education.


In the end, Li Diao, Deputy Minister of Office of Student Affairs and Director of the Ideological and Political Education Department, delivered a speech. He emphasized that the policy of public funded normal university students is a major strategy for the country to build a high-quality and balanced basic public education service system and promote high-quality development of education, hence the cultivation of public funded normal university students is an important part of talent cultivation of school. He said that the symposium was not only a research and discussion meeting, but also a consultation meeting. The opinions and suggestions put forward during the meeting regarding the talent cultivation of public funded normal university students in the school would be systematically sorted out and deeply studied by Office of Student Affairs. The relevant functional departments of school would actively promote the continuous improvement of talent cultivation and ideological and political work of public funded normal university students, creating conditions and providing guarantees for the long-term development and improvement of ideological and political qualities of public funded normal university students.
