(Correspondents: Li Mengshi, Jiang Shiyi, Chen Xinyue) On the evening of November 11th , School of Chinese Language and literature of CCNU held “Professor Night Roll Call” Characteristic Party Day Activity in the activity hall on the first floor of the Li Qun literature club. This activity was hosted by Party Committee of School of Chinese Language and Literature, Office of Retirement Work and Care About the Next Generation Working Committee, and was carried out in the form of salon dialogue.
The former Vice Principal of CCNU and Professor of School of Chinese Language and literature Wang Wenhan, Director of the Teaching and Research Section of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature Li Yuchun and the former Secretary of Party Committee of School of Chinese Language and Literature Tan Wengen acted as keynote speakers. The Vice Secretary of Party Committee Liang Wei, the Secretary of Party Branch of Folk Literature Sun Zhengguo, young teacher of contemporary literature Yang Xiaofan and the instructor of students of grade 2016 Shi Mei took part in the dialogue as interview guests. The Director of Office of Retirement Work He Xiaohong, the Principal of School of Chinese Language and Literature Liu Yun, the Vice President of Care About the Next Generation Working Committee Zhu Bin, the Director of Office of Care About the Next Generation Working Committee Zeng Aihua and about 400 teachers and students and representatives of Party members participated in this dialogue.
In the course of this “Professor Night Roll Call” activity, former Headmaster of CCNU, Party cadre and famous professors were specially invited to communicate with the young. From school motto to campus culture, from life experience to learning skills, from ideal and faith to duties of a Party member, the young were provided with a spiritual baptism.

81-year-old former Headmaster Wang Wenhan, who had been working in CCNU for 60 years, elucidated our school motto combining his own experiences, analyzed our school spirit word by word for students. School motto and spirit are not only expectations our school has for students, but also mirrors for students to examine their own errors. Students were also taught to love themselves and others, love those who are worth their love, love what is worth being cherished, so as to feel the true meaning of “love exists in CCNU”.

“Some Reflections About Learning” taken as the theme and “Folk Stories” being the main content, Professor Liu Shouhua shared his experience of learning. When interviewed by Global Characters, Professor Liu said, “I’m very fortunate, researching folk stories is not only a work but also an interest for me. What’s more, it is the embodiment of social responsibility.” He told students that to learn is to combine occupation with duty and interest, students should lay a solid foundation and firm their goals.

Professor Liu Yuchun shared his exploration of literature and his experiences about how he surpassed himself in the aspect of choices and expansion in the academic field. Students were suggested to read widely, analyze issues with form aesthetics and cultivate character of seeking truth. “Both life and science are processes of constant practice,” he said.

As an experienced Party worker who had been working for our Party for more than 40 years, Secretary Tan Wengen shared his stories concerning being a Party member using humorous words and vivid examples. He highlighted the importance of ideal and faith and explained the requirements and duties of a Party member with his own deeds. Occupied, he worked in the forefront to fight with difficulty; retired, he held his post to dedicate strength. Disregarding fame and fortune, he silently devoted himself, serving for students’ development. Staying true to the mission, he strengthened ideals and faith, striving to be a qualified Party member.

At the end of the meeting, four guests presented prizes to winners who were outstanding in the composition competition on the theme of Party Day Activity and expressed their faithful wishes to students. “Today is the Double 11 Shopping Carnival, although we have gained nothing for daily life, we have attained a spiritual baptism,” said Secretary Tan Wen Gen.

This night roll call activity is widely well-accepted. A student of grade 2018 Li Ruixin said, “after hearing the sharing of seniors, I can feel their passion. As Professor Li Yuchun said, we should define our own positions and explore our next steps.” Characteristic Party day activity is a beginning rather than an end, Party Committee of School of Chinese Language and Literature will associate with Office of Retirement Work and Care About the Next Generation Working Committee, continue to conduct the series of “Professor Night Roll Call”. Life is long, students of School of Chinese Language and literature will keep moving under the guidance of ideal and faith. Seniors have sown a seed in the mind of participants, it will bloom ever and ever.
