The Voice of CCNU On the afternoon of 21 October, a salon on the subject of “professional ability development and career planning of the part-time instructors” was held in room 401 of Undergraduates Activity Center. This salon was delivered by the undergraduate instructor Xiao Lixia from School of Information Management as well as sophomore instructor Ma Xiao from School of Chinese Language and Literature, aiming at helping the part-time instructors enhance their vocational skills, set a tone for their occupation and prepare for not only their career plans but also their future employment well. This activity was hosted by Mr. Chen Zhi from Ideological and Theoretical Education Office of the Student Affairs Department. Part-time instructors from all institutes participated in the salon.
First, Xiao Lixia shared her knowledge with the theme of “efficiency comes from diligence, keep study in mind”. She defined the part-time instructors as learners, leaders and executors, demonstrating the participators her working experience from the students' as well as the instructors' perspectives and five important relations which should be solved while working. When explained the learners——who were actually students, she emphasized all the time that no matter the attendees were graduate students or instructors, as learners, they should lay stress on professional learning, in the meantime, pay attention to improving their knowledge and skills. Meanwhile, she suggested the part-time instructors master coordination and allocation abilities to wear many hats which were brought by multiple identities in advance. When it came to describing the role of leaders, in her point of view, the instructors should walk a fine line between being teachers and being friends, attaching great importance to the thought construction and mental consultation of the students. At last, for the executors, she gave examples of her working practice and teased out the five relations from five aspects which were notion, orientation, objects, platform and ways of work.
Ma Xiao continued the sharing session under the title of “manual of the instructor Ma”. He started with his career in order to offer his orientation and command of his role at work. As far as he was concerned, his working experience of being a part-time instructor brought him a lot of advantages during the recruiting season, such as the habit of leaving marks while working, keeping a balance between daily life and work, the combination of ideological and political education, the construction of featured courses and the settlement of practical problems. Due to this experience, he distinguished himself from others when participating in formal recruitment. Moreover, he shared the recruitment process of the part-time instructors and his hints of preparing for the exams and came up with advice which suggested the attendees establish their own problem solving system, which drew the instructors' applause for this sincere share.
