On the afternoon of November 11, preliminary contest of the third skill competition held for minority ethnic normal students, which was sponsored by CCNU Student Affairs Department of Party Committee and undertaken by National Unity Education Studio was successfully hosted at room 203 of the School Study and Development Center. The guests and judges who attended the activity were the principal of CCNU National Unity Education Studio, Meiheri Guli, the internally sent administrative teacher who was native to Xinjiang of Student Affairs Department of Party Committee, Li Chunyan, the professional instructor of the minority ethnic students, Ali Xiate and Re Mila as well as Gao Qianqian from the Department of Artificial Intelligence Education, Qiu Xiannian from School of Foreign Languages, Cui Jiaxin from College of Physical Science and Technology, Zhang lijun from School of History and Culture, Liu Shiyu from School of Chemistry and Diao Shuyue from School of Life and Science. The competitors who participated the competition were recommended and elected by their own college. 23 normal students of 12 different nationalities took part in the contest. The sophomore Liu Huanwei from Department of Artificial Intelligence Education shared the host duty with Guli Na from School of Foreign Languages.
The preliminary contest consisted of three parts including writing exhibition (20%), instructional design as well as courseware making (30%) and on-site teaching show (50%), which aimed at improving the normal students’ command and innovation ability of basic teaching skills to manifest the features of themselves, in the meantime, upgrade their teaching skills, so that they could become high-quality normal students who met requirements of the new age. At the beginning of the event, Liu Huanwei and Guli Na introduced rules and attention points of the competition. After that, they announced the start of the match. Subsequently, the staff distributed writing papers for the participants. Later, the contestant started to write specific writing content successively, which made the circumstance quiet suddenly. All the participants focused on their contest entries, wrote swiftly and finished their works without a break. When the pen writing part came to an end, the chargers displayed all the entries on the desk, then the judges evaluated and marked the works.
During the teaching part, the awarding points were divided into two sections, instructional design as well as courseware making. 22 competitors were split into five groups to gave presentations on the platform. All of them displayed their teaching content for the judges and audiences with high spirits. They showed their clear design ideas and novel teaching methods, which could accurately explain their understandings about teaching targets, key and difficult points and teaching process, demonstrating their professional literacy as well as knowledge reserve. Meanwhile, they started with their own major’s characteristic and core literacy and combined with reality to bring a original teaching presentation from the flexibility of teaching methods and other aspects. After each group accomplished their presentations, the judges made all-around comments according to their lesson plan designs, courseware making and live performances, affirmed their excellent presentations and pointed out their shortcomings, which let them get the fullest knowledge and training.
After they completed their teaching plan presentations, Li Chunyan and Meiheri Guli summarized the competition. Li Chunyan said: “Today the students got a good chance to learn from each other and enhance teaching ability. Each of you showed your own strength and mien. The judges’ multidimensional comments were very professional, which help every participant improve his teaching skills.” Meiheri Guli made a conclusion: “The preparation of the skill competition is getting more and more meticulous, in the meantime, the competitors’ presentations are increasingly outstanding, just like the eight immortals cross the sea and manifest their powers. No matter what the result might be, you did experience gains and improve yourselves, which is the whole point of us holding such kind of activities.” After fierce competition, the judges sorted through their grades. Ultimately, the top 10 participants who were represented by sophomore, Qi Yuan, got to the finals.
This activity provided the students with a platform where they could put the theory into practice to carry out practice and exchange their ideas, which does good to the improvement of the normal students’ teaching skills. What’s more, the participators understand that only if they are competent and skillful, they will never be beaten by others. So far, Preliminary Contest of The Third Skill Competition Held for Minority Ethnic Normal Students had been successfully hosted.
