Have you ever heard the poem“The curling autumn wind moves, and the desolate cold dew is lonely”？ This poem came from the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi, in which he described the bleak and cool weather on the day of Cold Dew.
你听过这句诗吗：“袅袅秋风动，凄凄寒露露”？这句诗出自唐朝诗人白居易，在这首诗中他描绘了一幅寒露时节天气凄凉、萧条的景象。
“Cold Dew”is the 17th one of the 24 solar terms and falls on October 8 or 9 each year. The weather of that day is colder than “White Dew” and the dew will freeze into frost. After Cold Dew, the cold air will move south, which makes the air dry, and there will be a marked temperature difference between day and night. In the south, it is usually less rainy and the weather is more cool. While in the north, it may already be like scenes of winter. Thus it is of great importance to add and remove clothing timely in order to avoid catching a cold.
“寒露”是二十四节气中的第17个节气，在每年的10月8日或9日。那天的天气要比“白露”那天更冷，露水将会冻结成霜。在寒露过后的一段时间里，冷空气南下，空气变得干燥起来，同时还伴随着有明显的昼夜温差。在南方，通常少雨，天高气爽，然而在北方，可能已经是一幅冬天的景象了。因此要及时增减衣物，以防感冒。
Just like other solar terms, there are also some special customs in Cold Dew, such as appreciating red maple leaves, eating crabs, eating persimmon and drinking autumn tea and so on. These customs reflect people’s enjoyment of life after the autumn harvest.
正如其他节气一样，寒露也有一些特别的习俗，比如赏枫叶，吃螃蟹，吃柿子，喝秋茶等等。这些习俗都反映了秋收后人们对生活中的享受。
In late autumn, many plants wither and die, and the whole world is of a scene of depression. However, there isn’t dislike towards autumn among people, on the contrary people enjoy its beauty. As the poet Liu Yuxi said,“Since ancient times, autumn has been a symbol of sadness and loneliness, but I think that autumn is better than spring.”Throughout history, people enjoy the joy of the autumn bountiful harvest. Even in Cold Dew, in the late autumn, when winter is approaching, people are full of hope for life.
深秋时节万物凋零、满目萧然。然而人们并没有不喜欢秋天，反而享受着它的美丽。正如诗人刘禹锡所说，“自古逢秋悲寂寥，我言秋日胜春朝”。从古至今，人们一直都享受着秋天丰收的喜悦。即使是在寒露、在深秋、在冬天将要来临之际，人们也充满了对生活的希望。
