In order to do well in the evaluation of national scholarships and give full play to the leading role of scholarships, on October 8, the 2023 Undergraduate National Scholarship defense meeting of the School of Mathematics and Statistics was held in the lecture hall 6401 of Building 6. Mr. Liu Chengzhu, secretary of the Party Committee of the school, dean Mr. Zhou Yuanyang, vice dean Mr. Zheng Gaofeng, vice secretary Mr. Tian Jun, headteacher representatives Jiang Daijun, An Lixiang, Deng Qingquan, Wang Chunhua, Wang Shujing, Li Le, Ning Jianhui, Shuai Wei, Li Na, Guo Sipei, Liu Chuangye, Deng Qintao, Qu Lianqiang, Liu Mengya, Long Changjing, Jiang Mina, Chen Shuang, Luo Yong, Deng Guotai, Duan Ran, Li Peiyan, Li Zhengbang, together with all the undergraduates’ part-time and full-time counselors and student representatives from each class attended this meeting which was presided over by the counselor Shen Manye.
The national scholarship is a state-level scholarship established with capital contribution by the central government, aiming to reward students with excellent academic performance in school and outstanding performance in social practice, innovation ability, comprehensive quality. After the personal declaration and qualification review, a total of 29 students from three grades entered the defense session.
The defense is divided into two parts. The first part is personal statement part at which the candidates make statements about their academic records, scientific research and competition, student works, voluntary services and social practice. And the second part is on-site question at which teachers presented random questions and contestants responded calmly after earnest thought.
Tian Jun conducted a speech to summarize the defense meeting, she first expressed thanks to the headteachers for their the long-term attention and devotion to cultivate students, and again emphasized the requirements and significance of the national scholarship selection. In addition, she expressed her expectation of other students present to follow the example of these elite students to continually improve ones core competitiveness.
The National Award debate did not only provides a platform for the best to show and express oneself, but also provides others the opportunity to learn from advanced examples. Li Xintong, student representative of Class 2211, said it was such an honor to listen to the defense as a class representative and a fine example has boundless power. And the defense also stimulates others to look up to the examples and meet a better self.
