The Voice of CCNU On the evening of October 6th, the 2023 National Scholarship Defense Meeting for undergraduates of School of Information Management was successfully held in classroom N319 in the comprehensive building. The participants included Wang Yulu, secretary of the College Party Committee, dean Li Yuhai, and Wang Tao, deputy secretary of the College Party Committee. All the undergraduates of grade 2023 and representatives of other grades listened and studied on the spot. Judges of the defense meeting were composed of department heads (or secretaries of the Party branch of the faculty), representatives of teachers in charge of classes, and full-time college counselors.
On the basis of personal application, qualification review, and democratic evaluation in early stage, the Student Affairs Office of the college had determined 12 candidates to participate in the defense meeting, including 5 candidates of grade 2020, 5 candidates of grade 2021, and 2 candidates of grade 2022. Candidates conducted a five-minute self-presentation in terms of ideological and political education, learning and scientific research, social practice, innovation ability, and overall quality according to the order of drawing lots. The judges and teachers asked questions and graded them on the spot. Based on the preliminary comprehensive inspection and on-site scoring results, five students were selected in equal amounts to gain the national scholarship.
At the beginning of the event, Dean Li Yuhai delivered a speech. He expressed sincere congratulations to the 12 candidates, fully affirmed their growth and progress in their learning and life, and wished the candidates all the best in the defense. For freshmen and other students of lower grade, he hoped that they can cherish this opportunity, observe and learn carefully, accumulate experience and gain inspiration in this defense meeting.
After the host Yin Yanqing introduced the rules for defending a statement, the defense meeting officially began. The twelve candidates presented on stage in turn. They shared their stories in moral cultivation, professional leaning, academic research, innovation and entrepreneurship, social practice, and other aspects under the themes of “The direction of one’s heart, the direction of one’s bare feet”, “Writing a beautiful youth with sincerity”, and “Do not indulge in fantasy, do not focus on empty voices”. In just five minutes, they comprehensively, truthfully, and accurately presented themselves, demonstrating the rigor, confidence, and positiveness of students of School of Information Management. The spiritual style that should be possessed by students of School of Information Management in the new era was comprehensively demonstrated.
The defense session ended and the on-site audience questioning session started. The candidates took the stage together to answer the questions, such as how to balance academic learning with recreational activities, and how to obtain better resources to prepare for competitions.
At the end of the event, Wang Tao commented on the statement defense and announced the list of undergraduates to be recommended for the 2023 National Scholarship. He hoped that students recommended for the national scholarship can guard against arrogance and impatience, and strive for greater progress. He encouraged students who had not been recommended for the national scholarship to continue their efforts and keep the enterprising spirit. He hoped that students of lower grade can actively align with these excellent students, and keep learning positively, adhere to the unity of planning and execution, adhere to individual efforts and team coordination to promote mutual progress, and strive to achieve all-round personalized and high-quality development.
The establishment of the national scholarship is to reward college students who have outstanding academic performance during their school years, particularly in terms of social practice, innovation ability, comprehensive quality, etc. It is of great significance to create an atmosphere of striving for excellence, to set young role models, and to motivate students to strive forward. This national scholarship defense meeting provided a platform for students of School of Information Management students to fully showcase, express and summarize themselves. In the meanwhile, it created an opportunity for students of lower grade to learn from the advanced students. It also helped them to carry out deeper thinking, clearer planning, and more resolute actions towards their university study and life.
