The Voice of CCNU On the noon of November 8th, the 2023 Lunch Meeting between Freshman and Professors, organized by the “Li Xing”Learning and Development Center of School of History and Culture, was held in conference room 1311 of Building 1. Li Huazhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of History and Culture, Dean Wu Qi, Vice Dean Wei Wenxiang, Liang Fangyong, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of School of History and Culture, Luo Ailin, Director of the History Department, Chen Dongdong, Associate Professor of Institute of Historical Documents, Qin Yuqin, the counselor of students of grade 2023, and 12 student representatives of grade 2023 participated in this event. The lunch meeting was hosted by Deputy Secretary Liang Fangyong.
The atmosphere of the lunch meeting was active, and student representatives raised questions from various aspects such as professional course learning, historical thinking cultivation, methods of historical literature research, scientific research methods, and employment in the future. The professors answered and clarified specific questions on-site. Ning Kexin raised concerns about the employment situation that the amounts of teacher preparation would reduce in the future. Professor Wu Qi encouraged students to continuously improve their skills, and strive to achieve two-way choices with employers upon graduation. Meanwhile, Professor Qin Yuqin conducted a systematic and in-depth analysis using the employment situation of 2023 graduates as an example.
Liu Zehong raised doubts about specific professional courses learning, while Chen Dongdong and Luo Ailin respectively introduced the teaching focus and learning methods of relevant courses. Wang Yongjing was confused about how to start historical research as normal school students, professors all put forward their answers in terms of this issue. Professor Wei Wenxiang pointed out that if students want to choose their desired direction, they should communicate more with the teacher after class. Professor Wu Qi also believed that normal school students must read more, think more, take root in professional learning with a high degree of enthusiasm, deeply study literature with a down-to-earth attitude, constantly explore and make progress, and strive to become a good teacher in the new era with excellent competence in researching and educating.
Li Huanjun expressed concern about the current situation of not being able to raised innovative questions about classroom content. Professor Luo Ailin stated that the prerequisite for discovering problems is to have sufficient knowledge reserves and literature reading. Without comparative thinking of multiple types of information, it was impossible to propose truly valuable questions. He also pointed out that students in today’s stage do not need to worry, but need to lay a solid academic foundation step by step. Only in this way can students achieve longer-term development.
After the exchange session, Dean Wu Qi gifted Zhang Kaiyuan’s work “Journey to the Future” to the attending students, encouraging them to work hard in their future learning and life, practice diligently, and continue to move forward on the path of history.
Finally, Liang Fangyong stated in his summary that the lunch meeting provided a bridge for communication between the teachers and classmates. The teachers provided professional guidance, insightful suggestions, and earnest expectations, pointing the way forward for the new students’ history learning. He hoped that students can be down-to-earth and strengthen their basic knowledge learning, plan their college life well and enhance their professional abilities, aim high and establish lofty ideals, combine personal growth with national development, and strive to be a promising youth in the new era.
This activity further helped freshmen better adapt to university learning and life, greatly enhancing the relationship between teachers and students, and enhancing the cohesion between them. Hope that students of School of History and Culture will quickly integrate into the warm family, forge ahead, and live up to their youth.
