Counselor Salon | "Collective Lesson Preparation for College Students' Growth Theme Education"

On the morning of April 3, 2024, the third session of the Counselor Salon - "Collective Lesson Preparation for the Theme of College Students' Growth" was held in Room 6323 of the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The salon was hosted by the Student Work Department of the Party Committee and organized by the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Wang Yufan, Ph.D., a lecturer at the School of Marxism of Central China Normal University, was invited to share the theme of the salon, which was attended by more than 20 representatives of undergraduate counselors of grades 2022 and 2023 from all training units. The salon was hosted by Mr. Chen Zhi from the Civic and Political Affairs Office of the Academic Engineering Department.




Wang Yufan, a teacher from the School of Marxism, focused on the theme of "Knowledge, Emotion, and Intention in Preparing Civics Classes", and elaborated on the three aspects of knowledge, emotion, and intention in the preparation of college students' growth-themed education courses. It is pointed out that "knowledge" is the breadth, precision and depth of knowledge, and teachers should pay attention to the background knowledge of the lecture, i.e., the understanding of the national, party and social conditions, the political, authoritative and efficient content of the lecture, and the use of the theoretical knowledge of the lecture. "Emotion" is the learning situation, emotion and context. Teachers should strengthen the analysis of learning situation to grasp the initiative of teaching, do a good job in the process of emotional management and emotional mobilization, and make good use of situational teaching to restore the content of the situation. "Intention" is attention and significance. The essence of Civics is reasoning, and teachers of Civics should understand the characteristics of students' attention, make good arrangements for the rhythm of the course, cultivate basic political literacy, and lead students to establish values, pursuits, beliefs and faith as the purpose of the course.



After the successful completion of the evening roll-call thematic education courses, the counselors who actively participated in the endeavor gathered to engage in a meaningful sharing and exchange session. They openly discussed their respective experiences in lesson preparation and teaching methods employed during these courses. This salon, organized with the utmost care and precision, served as a platform to bolster the counselor team's professionalization capacity building. It aimed to foster a conducive environment where counselors could not only enhance their lesson preparation skills but also foster deeper exchanges and collaborations among different counselor groups. By doing so, the salon further empowered the counselors' personal and professional growth, paving the way for their continued development and success in their respective roles.
