The Voice of CCNU.As the autumn breeze brings a refreshing coolness and the fragrance of osmanthus fills the air, on October 23rd, the first session of the "LiYun·Qiuzhi" History Book Club was successfully held at the "Fireside Reading Center" in the West Five One-Stop Student Community by the School of History and Culture. This book club was jointly organized by the Fireside Reading Center, the Reading and Writing Center, and the Academic Research Department of the Student Union of the School of History and Culture at Central China Normal University. Professor Wei Wenxiang, Dean of the School of History and Culture, served as the lead reader, and the event was hosted by Teacher Fu Jiaqi, the undergraduate counselor for the class of 2024. Students participated through both online and offline platforms.
The book club commenced with an engaging reading sharing session by Professor Wei Wenxiang. With his profound academic background and unique perspective, he guided the students in discussing his work, "Historical Studies Searching for Itself" - An Interview with Zhang Kaiyuan. He used the background of the article as a starting point, combining Mr. Zhang Kaiyuan's academic research experiences and personal insights, to share his own reading reflections. Professor Wei Wenxiang emphasized that as future practitioners of historical studies, students should firmly cultivate the "soul of history," which involves nurturing "historical morality" and "historical ambition," and should aim to pursue "getting closer to the truth of history" in their research. He also reminded the students to always remember their responsibilities and public missions, allowing this sense of mission to become a strong driving force for continuous progress. His sharing was both profound and relatable, earning rounds of applause from the teachers and students present.

In the subsequent free exchange session, students enthusiastically shared their reading experiences and learning journeys, actively asking questions and discussing with Professor Wei Wenxiang on various dimensions, including reading techniques, professional study paths, and the verification of historical materials. Professor Wei Wenxiang provided detailed and enlightening answers on how to correctly approach historical materials and how to better cultivate a sense of time and space. The students felt they gained a lot and expressed that these valuable suggestions would lay a solid foundation for their future academic research and personal growth.

At the end of the event, Teacher Fu Jiaqi summarized the activity. She pointed out that the purpose of the book club was not only to share the reading experiences of the interview with Mr. Zhang Kaiyuan but, more importantly, to guide students in mastering effective reading methods. Teacher Fu Jiaqi encouraged the students to not only widely read the classic works of "masters" but also to deeply understand and inherit their outstanding academic spirit and character. She hoped that students would always uphold the pursuit of "truth, goodness, and beauty" in their professional studies and personal growth, allowing the light of academia and the beauty of life to shine together.

With this, the first session of the "LiYun·Qiuzhi" History Book Club came to a successful close. As we inspire thoughts and actions, and seek knowledge and answers, the journey of historical exploration is long, but fortunately, we have the company of books and good teachers and friends along the way!
