The Voice of CCNU In order to do a good job of warm education, let the students who are busy in study and life enhance their self-confidence and happiness through positive psychological experience, feel the unique charm of this ancient handicraft, and strengthen the sense of identity and pride of traditional Chinese culture, on the evening of November 27th, The Psychological Association of Central China Normal University (students) successfully held the 18th session of the "Heart Power · Happiness Night School" "Dianbeicheng Intangible Cultural Heritage of mother-of-Pearl" -- the experience of mother-of-pearl craft in the Heart Flow space of the one-stop Student Community Service Center (East 18), bringing a visual and spiritual feast with the integration of tradition and creativity. This activity was led by Jiang Fengcheng, a peer mentor of Psychological Association and Psychological Power, and 8 members of Psychological Association participated.
At the beginning of the activity, the leaders introduced the historical origin and craft characteristics of mother-of-pearl with the help of ppt, and its important position in Chinese traditional culture. Snail refers to the texture of the Mosaic material, mother-of-pearl refers to the meaning of decoration. The word "motherlay" accurately conveys the characteristics of this inlaying process, that is, the shell of the concha and the ostracism is grinded and processed, and the knife is carved and inlaid on the lacquer, showing a strong contrast, mottled color and brilliance of the lacquer process. Then, the leader showed several common mother-of-pearl materials such as abalone shell, luminous shell and their characteristics, and explained the principle of pearl on the shell. Then, through the appreciation of classic mother-of-pearl arts and crafts, leading the participants to travel through time and space, back to the ancient era of craftsman ingenuity, interpreting the Oriental aesthetic charm under the flow of light.
After the presentation, the activity entered the practical part, the leader gave a brief teaching to the members, and emphasized the important and difficult points of the production, and the staff distributed the mother-of-pearl production materials. Accompanied by soothing and melodious music, the students tried to make their own mother-of-pearl works. They first spread a layer of delicate glue on a special base, and then according to their own preferences, select colorful pieces of broken snails and carefully inlay them. The dazzling pieces of snails shine brightly under the light, and the natural texture makes each piece unique and exudes a charming glow.
During the production process, the presenter shuttled between the students from time to time, patiently answering questions and providing technical guidance to ensure that each participant could successfully complete the work. The students either lowered their heads to meditate, or smiled at each other, and gradually entered the state of flow in a warm and harmonious atmosphere, focusing on each link, relieving anxiety and relaxing in the mindfulness practice.
Finally, under the accumulation of meticulous carving step by step, the exquisite mother-of-pearl brooch was presented one by one. At the end of the activity, the members showed their achievements, exchanged creative ideas, shared joy and harvest, and these works were not only a tribute to the traditional Chinese skills, but also a witness of the students' ingenuity and creativity. Participating member Gao Yibo said, "Through this activity, I not only learned how to make mother-of-pearl, but more importantly, I felt the temperature of traditional culture, which made me cherish and love our national culture more."
