"The Lovers" is a love movie directed by Xu Ke in 1994, starring Wu Qilong and Yang Caini. This film mainly tells the sad and touching love story between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The film is an excellent film that was nominated four times for Hong Kong Film Awards.

影片的大段都是在讲祝英台与梁山伯在书院学习的快乐时光。用纸团作弊、书院足球赛、同席而睡用水碗划界、敲钟时、扮鬼脸……这些美好的记忆在封建社会下显得尤为可贵，尤其是后期情节急转而下，祝英台得知梁山伯去世，被迫嫁到马府。回想过去曾经，留下一行血泪，是那么凄美。这行泪，不仅是对梁山伯去世的哀鸣，也是对这个等级制社会血淋淋的控诉。

本篇又一亮点则是祝英台母亲这一角色，她是某种意义上的英台，但是她却嫁给了“马文才”。更是在与梁山伯的对话中，揭露了对社会的辛辣讽刺。马文才这个角色甚至从来没有在剧中出现过，因为马文才无处不在，封建社会的教条亦无处不在。就像鲁迅所说，这历史歪歪斜斜的每页上都写着“仁义道德”，字缝里却都写着“吃人”！
