A Bushfire Continued, Thousands of Hearts Affected

April 3, 2020

Australia, located in the southern hemisphere with an area of 1.9 billion acres, is the only country in the world that has a continent. The special geographical location determines its hot and dry climate condition.

Since it entered its bushfire season in July last year, Australia’s high temperature and dry weather have helped the fire spread over. Last September the bushfire burst out in two states of Australia, and the firefighters took action right away, attempting to control the fire. Whereas, the dry weather led by winter drought and little rainfall made it hardly possible for firefighters to put out the fire.

From last September to this January, the bushfire in Australia lasting almost 5 months has brought unimaginable and destructive consequence to the locals and creatures. Several firefighters lost their life in the fire, so did many local residents. For most plants and animals, the bushfire could be regarded as a disaster threatening to extinct. The Blue Mountains, one of the World Heritage Area, had been affected more than 80%. What’s worse, this bushfire might have affected the bio-diversity. Many central cities including Melbourne were influenced a lot. Canberra, the capital of Australia, even declared a state of emergency.

Beside those above, we also need to focus on the air pollution caused in the process of the spreading fire. The smoke after burning floated in the air, and fell down to the surface contained in the rainfall. The black liquid looks like ink and sharp smell made rainwater no longer like before.

After any disaster we need to find its cause behind and lesson it taught us. First, the enormous forest area and its natural climate condition are one of the reasons of high occurrence. Next Australian government need to improve its solutions and measures to cope with bushfires. The prime minister of Australian Scott Morison claimed to put forward a proposal to Cabinet, establishing a royal commission in terms of forest fires. Some states have launched special actions aiming at arsonists. Some carried out arson on purpose, and some were unconscious and careless. Anyway, to deduce the occurrence and damage of bushfires, every section of the Australia should do its bit. Hope the lesson learned and the tragedy unrepeated.
