The Voice of CCNU News On the morning of November 18th, the 4th chemistry orienteer-cross-country race was held smoothly in the university, which was sponsored by the Committee of Chemistry Institute of Central China Normal University and undertaken by the Youth Volunteers Association of the Youth League Committee of Chemistry Institute. Aiming at all full-time students of CCNU, this activity was presented in the form of group competition. With the purpose of making students more familiar with the campus and strengthening the sense of teamwork at the same time, the activity was held in the form of directional cross-country searching for scattered chemical symbols, enabling students to further discover the wonders of chemistry.
Divided into groups of five people, participants went to find the boxes containing cards with material, number, plus sign and equal sign according to the given map. The contestants can complete the race only by successfully matching the cards into the equation and going to the end of Boya square to record the time. At the beginning of the activity, the participants gathered at Youming gymnasium and drew the map uniformly, with the staff explaining the rules of the competition. Despite the light rain, students’ enthusiasm appeared undiminished. As soon as the activity kicked off, there were some teams rushing to the nearest mission point and couldn’t wait to get their cards, while other groups stayed where they were, discussing which card to choose to match the equations with. The players took the map, compared to the memory in their minds, looking for the task points on the map without stopping.
But the real challenge was just beginning. The box was hidden in various secret places---on the branches, under the car, in the bamboo forest. Often the players found the task point but can’t find the hiding places of boxes, and there was also risks that the cards may be taken away by an earlier-arrived team. The difficulty of the competition and the bad weather kept testing the players, but they discussed with each other, encouraged each other, and started again after losing, adding a little warmth to the cold environment. Each team trotted to the last stop of their run after they finished punching the clock and got the material cards. After arriving at the finish line, the team members pieced together the chemical equation at lighting speed. At that moment, all the members cheered and jumped for joy. Immediately after the end of running, the selection of the best popularity award also kicked off. The teams who were interested in participating in the selection of the best popularity award handed in the photo with the display boards. From this photo, we can see the unique style and joy of each team.
So far, the competition has come to an end. This competition has shown the persistence and unity of students in the Chemistry Institute. After the activity, You ligen, a participant of Chemistry Institute said with a tired smile:” Although I was very tired in the process of competition, I felt the power of unity through this interesting competition, and this experience was unforgettable.”
