At noon of May 22 nd, with the purpose of passing on the May Fourth Quality and carrying on the May fourth Spirit as well as learning and implementing the significant spirit of what General Secretary Xi Jinping said in the ceremony to mark the centenary of the May Fourth Movement, the Youth League Branch 1708 of School of Mathematics and Statistics held the League Day activity centered on “Study Xi’s significant speeches, Implement the May Fourth Spirit” at 6209 classroom in the 6th teaching building. This activity was hosted by Wu Wenhui, the League secretary, and engaged by all the members of League Branch 1708.
At the very beginning, Wu laid emphasis on introducing the historical background, process, significance and the core of the May Fourth Spirit. She said, “The May Fourth Movement is a patriotic campaign participated by Chinese people to resolutely fight imperialism and feudalism, which means a lot to the birth and development of the Communist Party of China. This year has witnessed the centenary of the May Fourth Movement, and we should study the May Fourth spirit, which includes Patriotism, Advancement, Democracy and Science, more deeply.” The member, Pan Yating, sighed with emotion,“The May Fourth Spirit is a patriotic spirit against imperialism and feudalism thoroughgoingly and uncompromisingly. Nowadays, our nation is in lasting stability, and thus, in such a superior learning environment, I should study harder and always be in persistent pursuit of both my own dream and the Chinese Dream.”
To better understand the value of carrying the May Fourth spirit forward into the new era, all the students watched the video of part of what Xi said in the ceremony to mark the centenary of the May Fourth Movement earnestly. After the end of the video, Wu Wenhui emphatically explained Xi’s 6 expectations for the youth to the students. She said, ”General Secretary Xi once said, ‘If the generation of youth has dreams, capabilities and sense of responsibility, there is sure to be a bright future for our country and a great hope for our nation.’ . We should always bear General Secretary Xi’s expectation for us young generation in mind. As the main force to build and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, we should have the historical responsibility to bring the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, which is our Chinese Dream, into reality and the courage to be the strivers of the new era.
After watching the video, Ca said, “From the recent trade war between America and China, I strongly feel that there are barriers and frustration on the way to achieving our Chinese Dream. Only by having a strong country can our legal rights be protected. Looking backward to the tough time during the May Fourth movement, the youth fought bravely and sacrificed their lives, one stepping into the breach as another fell, for the independence and liberty of our nation. In contrast, today we are living in such a harmonious environment, and thus there is no reason not to fight for the Chinese Dream.”
Ultimately, Wu concluded, “I hope everyone can establish lofty ideals and love our great country, shoulder the responsibility of the era and be brave to strive, refine professional skills and cultivate moral civilization.” To this point, the theme League activity in May of School of Mathematics and Statistics 1708 League Branch was rounded off.
