On the afternoon of October 23, volunteers carried out voluntary service at Liyuan subway station of Wuhan with the guidance of members of practice and voluntary service department of School of Computer and Science of Central China Normal University. The activity was aimed at assisting subway attendants to regulate the traffic, thus creating a convenient and orderly travel environment.
The first half hour before the activity began, heads related simply trained volunteers at the gate of subway station in terms of personal precautions, introduction on activity place, route guiding in the station and so on. Then, volunteers left for vehicle control room of subway station for handover and registering work. At the same time, they were divided into three groups following the suggestion of attendants, respectively undertaking voluntary service tasks of assisting buying tickets, guiding route and gate guarding. To ensure the activity go smoothly, volunteers arranged and put into action immediately after finishing preparing.

In the course of the activity, volunteers fought against inhibition hidden in their hearts and offered passengers a hand actively. When encountering the aged who couldn’t buy tickets with mobile phone, volunteers would guide them to self service ticket machine patiently and helped them buy tickets. If they saw soldiers holding military card, they would lead them to free exit forwardly.

The voluntary service wasn’t plain sailing. Volunteers came across foreign travelers who weren’t able to speak Chinese occasionally. However, facing the difference of language and culture, they tried various devices to help them to destinations instead of flinching, accumulating experience of interacting with others continuously.

As the end was around the corner, volunteers expressed their feelings of participating in this activity one after another. One of volunteers called Yang Qi said,”Voluntary service is indispensable part of every civilized society, whose meaning and value are conveying love and spreading civilization. We university students taking advantage of leisure time for serving society, will benefit a lot no matter others or us.”She added,” Other volunteers and I harvest so much in the activity, and we hope that more people take part in the meaningful voluntary service activity.“
So far, the voluntary service activity completed successfully. Through the activity, not only did volunteers bring convenience and warmth to Liyuan subway station, but also they had a deeper understanding of the meaning of volunteer. After the activity, the head said:”Everyone is glad for contributing to society. And I’m looking forward to more students joining in in the future.”
