On the afternoon of December 12, science popularizing culture day activity in 2021 named “light of physics”,hosted by the Youth League Committee and the student union of the College of Physical Science and Technology of CCNU, was held in front of Building 9. With the theme of “free scientific imagination, innovation for pursuing dreams”, the activity aimed to make more students understand knowledge and ideas concerning physics, enhance students’ innovative consciousness and improve students’ practical ability.
In the activity, in addition to knowledge explanation easy to understand and close physical exhibition, several game stalls and interesting science games were set up on the spot, as well as experimental activities closely related to life and knowledge competition to broaden our horizons. The students got firsthand experience, understood the relevant physical knowledge in the process of playing the games, and felt the magic and mystery of physical science. If they successfully completed the games, students could also harvest corresponding small gifts according to the number of collected seals. The activity attracted the active participation of students, the atmosphere of which was lively.
Mirror imaging is a common physical phenomenon in life. “Reverse writing” stall used the mirror imaging principle to design the game, and integrated the core socialist values as the topic. On the course of experiencing the games, students not only understood the relevant principles, but also enhanced their cultural confidence. Members of the Astronomical Association introduced astronomical knowledge through explanation of constellations and set up telescopes to observe the sun to stimulate students’ strong interest in astronomy. Siphonage effect, face recognition devices. Interesting experiments attracted the students to stop and watch. The staff conducted the experiments of “Kowloon Justice Cup” and “Siphonage Tower” on site, so that the students involved could personally perceive the physical phenomena caused by the siphonage effect.
In the small game called “table tennis able to jump”, the students participating blew air above table tennis, and this caused them to rise. It turned out that the pressure above the ball became smaller and the pressure below became bigger, so that table tennis can jump out successfully, and Newton's law was applied in the dribbling process. The physical principles hidden in table tennis games also reflect in daily life, which inspire students to observe the phenomenon in life carefully, encourage them to think more and explore more. The staff guided students to experience the thermoelectric power generation device, manual storage battery, and “passing through the wall” device, and explained them patiently and carefully, making students understand the physical principles behind the device in a deeper way.
Students participating in the activity said: this science popularizing culture day activity provided a platform for us who love physics, enabling us to experience physical phenomena in listening and practice, enriching our physical knowledge, and laying a foundation for our future academic research and scientific and technological innovation activities. Although the “light of physics” science popularizing culture day activity has ended, the students’ interest in physics has been increasing in the activity, and the road of exploring physics has just begun. Hope students have more wonderful meeting with physics.
