On January 10, the "Advanced Training Course on Capacity Building for Business Cadre Teachers of South African Primary and Secondary Schools", jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and the Department of Basic Education of South Africa and hosted by CCNU, was officially opened. Minister Li Zhigang and Counselor Li Xudong of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, Deputy Director General of the Department of Basic Education of South Africa, Mr. Padiadzi, Principal Hao Fanghua and Vice Principal Peng Shuangjie attended the course. The opening ceremony was hosted by Peng Shuangjie.
The training course was conducted online for 10 days, and the participants were 40 South African primary and secondary school cadre mathematics teachers, subject advisors, subject experts and South African Department of Basic Education officials. This was the first time for CCNU to conduct international teacher training on subject teaching.
In his speech, Li Zhigang spoke highly of and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to our university for its efforts in organizing this training. He pointed out that humanities exchange was one of the three pillars of China-South Africa relations, and holding this training course was an important pragmatic initiative to deepen China-South Africa cooperation in basic education under the framework of China-South Africa high-level cultural exchange mechanism. He encouraged the South African teachers attending the training to have in-depth exchanges with their Chinese counterparts, learn from each other, use the knowledge and skills learned in their future teaching practice, and strive to be messengers of friendship between China and South Africa.
The cooperation and exchange in the field of education has received increasing attention since 2014 when the two countries launched the activities of the high-level cultural exchange mechanism; the cooperation in basic education training between the two sides was first piloted in the field of mathematics, and it is hoped that it can be expanded to more subject areas in the future. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to our university for hosting this training, sharing its successful experience in teaching subjects and education informatization, and helping to improve the teaching level of mathematics in basic education in South Africa. He looked forward to the mutual understanding and deepening exchange and cooperation between the two sides through this training.
