The Voice of CCNU On the evening of September 18, the “Winning in the Academic Career” sharing session of 2021 (Science Education, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Artificial Intelligence) was held in Complex Building N111 of South Lake. In this sharing session, school senior sister Xu Qingyan, class of 2020, and two seniors, Jia Yuhao and Zhang Cheng were invited to share their sophomore year plannings for the younger students of 2021 batch. All students of 2021 batch attended this sharing session. The event was hosted by Zheng Yuqing, the department head of XingGuang Learning Development Center of the academic department.

Xu Qingyan, a science education major, shared her experience from three aspects: professional learning, extracurricular activities and life and emotions. She shared the study methods of several specific and important subjects, emphasized on summarizing and reflecting on the basis of understanding. In terms of extracurricular activities, she encouraged students to participate in clubs and various after-school activities to combine work with rest. As for life and emotions, she stressed the importance of mindset and the significance of socialization.

Mr. Jia Yuhao, a senior of Data Science and Big Data Technology major, shared his overall impression, plannings and study and life of his sophomore year. He pointed out that sophomore year was a critical period of transition among the four years of college, when students would be exposed to more and richer courses and opportunities. Thus, they need to find the right direction in order to accumulate knowledge and improve themselves in the sophomore year. He advised students to make both short-term and long-term plans, focus on the development of information literacy skills, and attempt more hands-on practices. Jia Yuhao also emphasized the formation of interests and the establishment of internal drive, which were reflected on active learning that would lead to the better learning performance, cultivate multiple interests and explore their own potential. Finally, he encouraged the students to socialize properly in life and combine work with rest rationally.

Mr. Zhang Cheng, the senior of Artificial Intelligence major, started to share from four ways: major, curriculums, competitions and merit evaluations and scientific researches. He initially introduced the AI major and its development direction, and then analyzed the situation and selection direction of the major from three aspects: getting into graduate school, seeking for a job or studying abroad. He also shared the study methods of several courses, some teaching materials, videos and other resources of the major courses through his own experience. He stimulated the students to follow their tutors in their research projects and actively engage in self-study. On competitions and merit evaluations, Zhang Cheng spoke highly of the importance of scientific research competitions and suggested students to form a long-term cooperative team, develop the teamwork spirits and participate in relevant competitions.

The students listened carefully during the whole distance and took photos to record the drastically beneficial lecture. The purpose of this sophomore-year-planning experience sharing session was to build a communication bridge between seniors and juniors and to help sophomores clarify their goal planning and improve their study methods. The exchange between students of different grades also helped to pass on the excellent learning culture and create a humanistic atmosphere in the department.
