Why Should We Take a Nap? 为什么我们需要午睡?

As we know, the sleep time and gap will be changing with the growth and aging process during our life. Babies can sleep for up to 14 hours, while adults usually just need to sleep six to eight hours to have full energy. Some adults take naps lasting around 20 minutes after lunch to rest and re-energize, but some not. Here are some benefits to take a nap.

正如我们所知,睡眠时间和差距会随着我们一生中的成长和衰老过程而改变。婴儿可以睡14个小时,而成年人通常只需要睡68个小时就能有充分的精力。有些成年人在午饭后小睡20分钟左右,以休息和恢复精力,但有些人则不然。以下是午休的一些好处。


First and foremost, naps up to 40 minutes can always make you feel more relaxed and improve your working or studying performance. Through a short snooze, you may feel easier to focus attention on one task and make less errors. In addition, it is a healthier life habit. Taking a nap may mitigate the risk of suffering from the heart problems, like the heart attack and stroke. Those who are anxious to keep fit are also suggested to take a nap, because it is reported that more sleep may lead to less consumption of fatty foods and added sugar. Besides, napping has been found to enhance the quality of the nighttime sleep. Finally, the nap can trigger the better mental agility and creativity, since the right side of our brain would experience a mental spark during a nap, research has suggested.

In my view, even though you have a tight and hectic schedule and have to keep sensitive for a long time, a coffee nap could be a good choice to help charge your brain’s batteries and get through the rest of the day. Drinking the caffeine and getting a few minutes of restful half-sleep half-weakness may make you feel more alert.

在我看来,即使你的日程安排紧张而忙碌,必须长时间保持清醒、敏感,喝咖啡小憩也可能是一个很好的选择,这有助于为你的大脑“电池”充电,以度过一天的剩余时间。喝杯咖啡,获得几分钟的半睡半醒的休息时间,可能会让你感觉更有活力。
