Nowadays, it is discussed whether news with images, like photos and videos, can better narrate the news stories. While some people support it, others hold the idea that visual tool cannot fully tell the reasons and results.

Some people believe that using images to explain the news can be more attractive and effective. To begin with, it is indeed more likely to conveying information on a larger scale. To be specific, pictures and dynamic videos may enhance the memories with visual experience and sometimes lead to the shock. For instance, it is obvious that people always feel less touched about the numbers of the victims, as compared with the pictures or videos on the spot of the disaster. Furthermore, in the digital area, netizens tend to scroll their smartphones to read news and are accustomed to watching short videos and reading in a fragmented and utilitarian manner, thus the vivid images being more attractive than the long text. Secondly, in general, images and videos may trigger the sense of reality and trust more, which are connected with real scenes. Finally, the novel form can also provide a deep insight into the news though showing the data graphs or videos of interviews. Taking the program of “Chuquan” for an example, the interviewing videos are increasingly popular on the website with the heatedly-discussed topic and innovated perspective.

However, on the other hand, photos and videos may also have many disadvantages. Sometimes, it is inconvenient or challenging to illustrate the news with images. For example, journalists can never trace back to the past to explore the causes of the event. Additionally, as we know, the depiction of pictures could be limited in the certain space and time, which may not be that sufficient to tell the truth to you.

From my perspective, I agree with the idea that news accompanied with the visual images would be the tendency in the journalism industry in the digital area. But at the same time, only the news including complement stories and in-depth expressions can attract individuals for a long time.
